1) 18-55mm (VR or non VR)
The very first lens I sold was my 18-55 (D50's kit lens). I sold it when I was so desperate for a F2.8 fast lens. Hence I upgrated my 18-55 to a 20mm F2.8. And then I wanted to have something wider and I also learned that large aperture is not entirely necessary on the wide end. So I replaced my N20mm 2.8 with a N 12-24 F4 (I made money on reselling my 20mm). After I bought my 12-24 and 85 1.4, I realised there's a missing gap for a mid-range zoom. I started to appreciate 18-55 so much!!!
2) 50 1.8 or 50 1.4D
50 1.8 no doubt has been rated one of the best value for money lenses. I am now using a 50 1.4 which gives me F1.4, sharper at F2.0 but softer than 50 1.8 when stopped down. But I have no regret. 50 1.4D is inexpensive anyway.
3) 85 1.8D
I have yet to use it. I recommend it based on the reviews I have seen. It's so close to 85 1.4D but only cost a third of the price.
4) 180 2.8D
I had a chance to use it...it's light, slim and renders magical images. It's a good alternative for 70-200 in some occasions.
5) 30 1.8 DX
I haven't got hold of one yet, but it's a great lens for sure.
Most of my list are prime lenses. If you can master them well you won't be needing anything else. Prime lens is the solution to Low Budget and High IQ photography.
