The electronic rangefinder (green dot) should be quite accurate as long as you know how to use it. I heard quite a few people who only use MF lenses said the arrowed electronic rangefinder (on D700/D3/D2) is actually easier to MF than the good old split prism...
personally i still prefer the split prism as it gives you instant feedback on how far you are away from correct focus.
And you are right.. a split prism screen + 51pt AF system and all those extra LCD/grid display will make our camera looks like this:
