Rumor Nikon D4 specs:

16.2 MP
11 fps
100-102,400 native ISO range, expandable to 50 and 204,800
CF + XQD memory card slots! That's right, the Nikon D4 will have the new Compact Flash XQD memory card slot.
Compatible with the new Nikon WT-5 wireless transmitter
Integrated Ethernet in the camera
Face detection/recognition function that will be working in the viewfinder (maybe some type of a hybrid viewfinder? Nikon had several related patents)
Improved video, I have no other details on that but my guess is 1080p/30/25/24 and 720p/60/30/25/24 similar to the Nikon D800
Uncompressed video out through the HDMI port
Ability to assign the two buttons on the front of the camera to smooth aperture control during video recording
Improved 51 AF points
AF detection range will go down to EV-2.0 (the D3s went to EV -1)
Autofocus system: 9 cross-type sensors that are operational up to f/8

wow, if that's true that's simply amazing.
How do you get such high native ISO!
Integrated ethernet??!! Does that mean I can use the screen as a browser and upload photos as I shoot? Tongue
as long as you bring your ethernet cable LOL

the D4 rumour spec looks amazing.

"100-102,400 native ISO range, expandable to 50 and 204,800
AF detection range will go down to EV-2.0 (the D3s went to EV -1)"

max 102400 native ISO, and 10 stops of ISO native range before any boosting!
And the extended AF detection range is a must with this low light monster!
NikonRumour is suggesting the high speed 16 MP D4 + high resolution 36MP D800 are what we'll get from Nikon.
if that's the case, i think need to save up for the D4 instead if i want to upgrade my D700 :/
Okay NR updated the D4 spec,
now it's ONLY:
100-12800 native ISO range, but still expandable to 50 and 204,800

i was thinking the native max 102400 ISO seems a bit too high to be true.
Only 16 Mega Pixels?
I was hoping for 24 or 30

I just bought a Coolpix S6100 for a christmas present and that thing has 16 Mega Pixels!
yeah to be honest i was a bit surprised when NR says (initially) the native ISO range is from 100 - 102400 as it's really a huge range.
But now native 100-12800 but expandable to 204800 doesn't sound right either...
it seems there is a HI1 (25600), HI2 (51200), HI3 (102400) and HI4 (204800)

So either:
1. D4's sensor isn't that much a improvement over D3s, and can only give acceptable quality photo up to ISO 12800, but Nikon's marketing department say let's push the sensor over the limit and have a Hi4 setting (with awful picture quality) so the spec sheet can match 1Dx's 204800 (a bit like what Canon did with the 1D Mk4)
2. Or it can really be expand to ISO 204800 with usable photo quality.. but if that's the case, wouldn't it make more sense to say the native max ISO is 25600 or even 51200 and offers 2 or 3 level of "HI" instead?

Nikon Kiu: A 16MP FF sensor (or is it 18MP as reported by some other websites) should really be very enough for 99% use, a smaller resolution sensor has a lot of advantage such as better dynamic range, better noise performance, and of course faster fps...etc. Even Canon (who normally focus on high resolution) upcoming flagship camera 1Dx has reduced resolution to 18MP (the current model Canon 1Ds Mk3 is 21.1MP). But if you want high resolution, the rumour D800 has 36MP, so that would suit you more. (or wait for the D4x)
Typically I committed to buying a D3s just before this thing was announced.

From what I have seen written about it the D4 seems to be a slightly above minor upgrade on the D3s with the exception of the 16mp sensor and connectivity for the new age. Dynamic range is slightly improved and ISO and focusing bumped up. I haven't really looked at the movie mode because to be honest I never use it, so there could have been a lot of work done on this.

The initial report of high native ISO did seem too good to be true, and it was. I remain sceptical about the 204800 rating, but I am sure someone might need that. I doubt it would be that usable. The most impressive thing would be to have the 16mp with the ISO capability of the D3s. That thing is already a low light monster and giving it a resolution boost whilst maintaining low noise would be a killer. 12800 is more than enough for just about anything so I don't really see the need for massive ISO capabilities in cameras. It seems almost like they have shifted focus from the MP to and ISO war.

It is interesting to note that the new Canon has actually dropped the resolution in the 1DX to try and get closer to a usable all round camera. So I don't think the 16mp is as bad as some are making it out to be. It's funny that a lot of Nikon friends of mine (I was a Canon man) would always argue that they didn't need more MP and then when an update is rumoured start complaining that they don't have enough.

All in all I am looking forward to seeing what Nikon finally brings out. I think Jan 06th is the new date for the unveiling with shipping late January. Us mere mortals probably wouldn't get our hands on one for at least 6 months or so after that.

I will use my D3s until the wheels fall off and then maybe give one of these a go. As far as the rumours go it will be a great camera. Now if only they could give us a good 135mm 2.0G to go with it I would be a happy man.
i definitely think quality is more important than quantity when it comes to camera resolution!
