D3000
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0907/090730...nd3000.asp
D300:
- 7fps with normal battery 8fps with grip (ENEL4a/AA)
-720P D Move with plug external mic (yes!!! finally!!), Autofocus
- In camera video editing + HDMI output for HD monitor
- Dual Card for CF/SD card (looks like SD is the future) , and you can use both cards at same time (i.e. just like D3!!) e.g. write two copies, or one card RAW, one card JPG or use one card first, then switch to next
-Quiet Shutter mode
D3000:
10.2MP sensor (D200 sensor?)
ISO 100 to 1600 + ISO3200 (Hi1)
11 pt AF (same AF as D200)
3fps
3"LCD
Dust Reduction
That D3000 is looking much better than the D60, if you ask me!

D300s is looking good too! I wonder HOW MUCH $$$$
I haven't looked into D3000 yet, but the first impression D300s gave me was nothing but a D300+video...no breakthrough here. Let's all wait for another year or so...
yes there is no real breakthrough.
but it's a "s" which normally means a update model.
like how D70s compare to D70
or D2Xs compare to D2X

I'm pretty happy with the D300s 's video feature. i was worrying that it'll just be exactly like D90.. i.e. mono sound, no external mic, no autofocus during recording, no manual control, but Nikon has fixed most of this.. still no 1080p or better codec so a bit disappointing but it's not really unexpected anyway.

on the other hand, it shows you how good the D300 is .. even one and a half year after it was released.
the original D300 is already as good as a top end DX camera can be, and now with the faster fps (7fps without grip!), improved high ISO performance, better UI from D700 (and finally a dediciated LV button) and dual memory card support!!! there is really not much you can ask for ...

the "breakthrough" camera will be called D400.. not a D300s.. but still i really don't know what can Nikon improve on already such a wonderful DX camera
They will always find something to improve on. I think the D400 will have more megapixels. Maybe another stop in low light ISO??

Possibly something like that.. but a few more megapixels or one stop in low light ISO is not enough to get most of the existing D300 users to upgrade.

Look at D200 -> D300
there were quite a lot of improvements:
10-12MP
11pt AF -> 51pt AF
better high ISO performance
much better LCD display
Liveview
5fps -> 6/8fps
sensor cleaning

even with all these upgrades, it's still not enough for most of the D200 users to upgrade. Actually none of the D200 owner i personally know have upgraded from D200 to D300.

D300 -> D400 .. the room for upgrade is really a lot smaller now. There is really not much you can improve.

I think the DSLR has reached a state there you can only expect evolution, not revolution.

Sasim

I wonder how much price will drop but atm moment I will not but d300s it cost the same as d700 in europe around 1800 euro!!! In USA 1799$... it's not fair if you ask me.

And from other hand I think that DX format is dead.

If you consider d300 I will go with d90 with extra lens
Talking about revolution
- the shutter speed is already fast enough...i mean hey, how many people use 6fps or 11fps?
- megapix...i dont mind a 24mp camera as long as i can optionally downsize and use 12mp mode...and the IQ remains the same
- iso level can keep increasing, but if night vision/IR mode or whatever its called becomes the reality, then we wont be bothering improving the everincreasing ISO performance
- if nikon can have super high quality compressed image then it would be a reason to upgrade. like a 24mp image only takes up 1Mb of space but IQ remains the same...

i am dreaming here...
