Goat Island Marine Reserve is New Zealand’s first marine reserve, and covers 518 hectares of coastal sea between Cape Rodney and Okakari Point.

There is a glassbottom boat that run regular trips from the the beach at Goat Island Marine Reserve. And that is one of the reason we went to Goat Island this time! The boat trip is approximately 45 minute and it goes around the Goat Island. You can view different fish, reefs through the boat's glassbottom (but don't expect to see colourful fishes like Nemo or colourful coral as the NZ water is too cold for them), the boat goes around the Goat Island and show us the big caves and some animals living near the coast.
