I know this is Nikon forum but I want to know what you guys think about Leica?
Many people talk those are things for snobs..
You can get M7 body for around 1600 euro wich is more like d300.
I realy start to think about it.. the one think that I HATE about digital is the FACT you need to take part in that RUSH new new new.. You can tell me: "Adam chillout don't rush" - but would you belive it?
Buying Leica with 50mm lens.. Mmm and confidence that you can die with this camera fully happy!
I have read the Image Quality isn't great. For that price, I think your D300 will still be a better choice / buy. I haven't used one, so I can't comment any further.
D300 and M7 are very very different camera.. almost completely opposite purpose.. it's hard to compare.
I'm actually thinking the same thing, I really like the idea of having a manual film camera which force you to take photo slowly. It'll force me to think a lot more before clicking the button.
But how much is the film develop/scanning in your country?
I nearly bought a FE2 few days ago.. but didn't buy it in the end because film developing/scanning (by a decent shop) is SO EXPENSIVE here in New Zealand. If i shoot 1-2 roll a month and within 12 months or so the $$$ i spent on film (including developing.etc) is enough for me to can buy a very good compact or even a DSLR ... if i'm very rich, i don't mind. but unfortunately i'm not so i need to think from my bank's point of view.
Not sure if it's true or not, but i have a feeling that film developing/printing is just getting more and more expensive as less and less people using film these days?

You hit the point.. As now I'm a member of academic photo club and I can process film absolutly for free. But I need do it by my own (get my ass into lightroom and process it). That is a good thing, but when time comes lets just say ten years I think that will be almost impossible to develope film even by yourself.. and price will be killer!
But yeah you hit the point.. You can get ragefinder like Zeiss Ikon (wich is leica M7 killer) for half the leica price but development is becoming a problem..
This is how I see near futre:
Film - Dead
DX - Dead
FX - will keep up becouse it will kill DX. Why? Technology is becoming cheap. You can say what about lenses (and this is the biggest bullshit ever) Check few years back they were only full frame lenses and they were normal price not like nowadays.
If the rumors about A850/60d are true.. Nikon is in the trouble becouse if I would be looking for advanced amature body I rather buy Sony full frame then Nikon crap d300s (this camera is a joke for me it is 2007 camera with 2007 technology for almost 2000 euro)
yes i believe film will definitely be dead within a decade or maybe even sooner! You will no longer be able to buy film from the local supermarket/gas station/random shops anymore. Probably can still buy them from camera shops but it will be a hassle to buy and develop them.
but i don't really agree D300s is crap. 2 years after it's release, even now the D300 is still the best overall APS-C size sensor camera. There are cameras better in one or other area but overall (image quality, iso performance, auto focus system, build quality, weather resistance, user interface...etc) D300 is still the best APS-C camera. D300s is a nice update which extends it's life by another year or so.
if Sony, Canon and other company comes out with a really good amature body, i don't see why Nikon won't do the same. Nikon have been the market leader (with Canon) for such a long time so they surely know what they are doing. Look at the D3000s.. Nikon's entry level DSLR camera and it has the same 11 AF point as D200 and the sensor is probably the same (or improved) as D200 too but in a much smaller body. I personally know a lot of photographers have switched from Canon to Nikon in the last 2 years but don't even know of a single person switch from Nikon to Canon.
No company or their product is perfect. Go to every camera forum and you'll see people complaining about their cameras. But i think Nikon is the one doing the best job since D3's release. Sony is doing very well too but they are fighting a very tough battle against the two top brands if it want to get any professional photographer to use their camera. The low end market would be a lot easier for them.

Ah! if you can process film yourself it's great and would save you a lot of money. But what about scanning the negative or photos? Do you want to achieve your photos in digital format? i would. And even a half decent quality negative scanner is very expensive :/
And yes i think in ten years or so, it would be very difficult to develop film even by yourself and the price will skyrocket as demand drops..
Quite sad actually but this is the way it'll go.
Just remember i still have a Canon Ixus camera which use APS film... i'm wondering if i can still buy any APS film from local shops anymore???
Oh man GF1 is so so so so so sexy!
I will consider that for sure 1200$ it is quite a lot BUT if it comes with leather finish that will make me a deal. Couse first two photos looks like crap I hate that plastic feel of GH-1 and I hope it will be diffrent.
the leather finish probably won't be a standard. but looks like it is a "optional parts"
yes $1200 is a lot of $$$.. but if it is a improved EP1 then i will seriously consider it as well.
GF1 is finally here:

preview looks good..
it gets rid of all the PEN's biggest problem.. AF speed, lack of viewfinder of any sort, no flash. and (one of) the kit lens is a 20mm f/1.7 pancake!!!
but on the other hand, i like the style of the PEN a lot more.
