This is a self-portrait. I am asking purely based on the photo, don't give me comments on the body. Its embarrassing enough posting it. I really need to know how to fix men's skin / body hair. How to pose shoot to get definition in the body?

The texture of mens skin is a little more course in comparison to a woman. Woman also dont' have body hair which makes fixing alot easier. Shooting a woman, you want nice smooth skin and shape, in men, you want the 3D ness to give muscle definition, so I am totally lost.

Taken with D700 / 50 1.4 and sB600 through folded reflective umbrella at camera left.

Any comments / critique please. Negative and positive... anything!

Pass or Fail?

I see some minor problems with this shot but i would definitely give it a pass!

Skin tone is a bit inconsistant. Your right arm has a warm yellowish colour tone but the rest of the body has a different maybe more blueish? colour tone. Is it because of mixed light source?

Can't see your hair. Maybe should add some hair light (even if it's a very weak one) to create some separation.

Put some oil on your body to make the skin looks more shinny.

But yeah still a good photo!

I would put light more over head like this

You don't need to soften light so don't use umbrella. If you need more harsh light zoom your sb as much as you can (in sb-600 it's 100mm I think).

And I highly recommend Joe McNally at Kelby traning for light tips!
Thanks for the input. I didn't think of using harsh light. I have a small space to work in and with strong light I tend to get the background and whole room illuminated. I need to find a larger space to work in.

Your input is very valuable, thanks guys! I learned alot!
I definitely need harder edged light. Here is what I tried earlier on today.
