Prime mostly.
Makes you work harder and develops your eye for composition.

I'm really bad!!
every three or six months, i switch from one to the other.
I like prime's compactness and big aperture but then i want to flexiblity so i sold my primes and switch to zoom
then i start missing the small size/weight and large aperture of the prime so I bought a few primes !!!!
Now i have both side by side in my camera bag.

My opinion - get the 50/1.4 for low light use and dof control, and bring along the 18-200 for your travels. That's a good flexible range, imo. If you get to full frame, buy the lenses there and then. Me, I'm hoping nikon will release a 300/2.8-DX VR,..

I go with zoom for the sake of convenience for general purposes. If I have planned to shoot something specifically, then the prime comes out =D 2 bodies are even better, one of each.
