Those are some cool shots!!! I don't have a macro lens, but it is rather tempting!!
the first shot, i think the placement of the shoe can be a bit better... I might either include the front of the shoe and focus on it. or move the camera/shoe sideway a bit more and focus on the graphics (the tick) on the side of the shoe.
I like your 2nd shot!
Arcspace: unless you are really taking a lot of portrait photos, get a macro first!
^ well noted.
i'm trying to get some interesting angles and compos on details as opposed to the whole shoe. i've seen so much normal product photography of shoes that i'm finding it hard to get the arty shot in my head.
I know.
Pretty certain will go for the Macro instead.
never enough glass in the bag . . . .

and if you were interested, 100% crop.
and if you were bored of shoes already.

What lighting conditions did you use for the shoes?
Soft-box?
look at how thin the DOF is!
and is that special starwars edition shoes?
ArcspacE, nothing special about the lighting. just late afternoon sun through the curtains. i taped a bit of cardboard to the wall and let it curve onto the desktop. super low-budget studio
yellow15, yeah Star Wars x adidas special editions.

Another 1:1 macro
I couldn't decide whether photoshop was the way to go on this shot so I've uploaded both altered and original files. What do you guys think?
