agree with CTM, the pics look great as your first attempt! i love your engine bay photos the most
For the 2 cockpit photos, try experiment with different ambient light / flash light ratio (i personally would reduce the ambient light)
if you shoot in TTL/semi auto mode,
just dial in a positive/negative exposure compensation to adjust the ambient light
then dial in a positive/negative compenstation on your flash (or from your camera's flash compensation dial) to adjust the flash power.
But remember camera exposure compensation is a global setting, so if you adjust the camera exposure compensation, you will need to adjust the flash compensation to counter it to get the same flash power.
or if you shoot in fully manual mode, set the aperture you want for the desire DOF first.
Then.. increase/decrease the exposure time to get more/less ambient light
and increase/decrease flash power to get more/less flash light.
these two settings can be adjusted independently (to some extent) to get you the results you want.

Joseph,
Congrats on getting your SB-600 flash. Nice first attempts. I need to learn how to use flash too.
Thanks yellow15, for educating us with your tips on using flash. It's most appreciated

I like the first one - has a soft/retro mood to it.
What car is that?
