yes that's a 1Ds with a 85mm f/1.8 i think.
No idea why he was not using the side grip. But actually i sometime just use the main vertical grip too when i am switching between the landscape and portrait mode quickly.

The weather was great yesterday so went out with my family for a walk.

i would prefer to take this photo with a slightly wider lens but only got the 50mm lens on the D700 so anyway..
