I haven't had any experience with the D90. But I convert my HD videos from a Sony video camera via AVS converter, it records in .mts format.

My internet line is pretty fast, but I am worried about the people I am sending the video to, at 30 secs and about 80mb, its not exactly SMALL.
I was hoping to re-compress it to maybe 10mb but not losing the resolution, just lowering the bitrate.
Thanks for the ideas, will give windows movie maker a try!
Magicmarker, how do you view the *.mts format? Will youtube etc recognise it?

Youtube does not recognise it, nearly nothing recognizes it other than the Sony media software that came with the Camcorder. It is a nasty file type. What is the file format the D90 spits out?

*.avi.
Just that some of the files when I take in 1280x720 are HUGE! I am not concerned about the uploading, but the people viewing it will take forever to download to watch.

Youtube should support mt2s file. at least the low-medium bit rate mt2s videos.
yes mt2s format is not really that common but the support is getting better and better now as almost all HD video cam record in mt2s format these days. Windows 7 and some other latest OS have built-in support for m2ts file.
i would suggest you to encode your video files in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format
and if you are uploading to youtube, youtube will re-encode your file to their flv format anyway

Where do you host your video on the net? I don't really like youtube.

CTM,
Have you tried http://vimeo.com/ or http://www.veoh.com? I've never tried them, but have some friends that prefer them over youtube. Hope they work for what you want to do.
