I bought a phottix EN-EL3e about 3 months ago. I hardly used it as I have a few extra Nikon EN-EL3e's. I decided to use it today and its flat, I charge it which takes 20 secs to FULL and when its plugged in, it shows 0%. What a p.o.s.

arrghhh!
i nearly had an heart attack because of the 3rd party batteries last sunday...
What happened??
okay i was shooting a wedding on Sunday.
During the wedding, all of a sudden, i can't review my photos from my camera, i can't go into the menu, just no way to turn on my LCD screen. What's even worse is that the autofocus seems not working as well. The only thing that seems to be working is the shutter button. Quickly turn off/on the camera didn't fix the problem, so i can only try my luck and keep shooting with manual focus hoping the camera would actually take some photos.

Lucky i was shooting with another photographer Wink so i know at least he will be taking some photos even if i can't capture anything.

So then when i had a break, i examined the camera, do the usual things like remove the lens, gripbattery...etc and reinstall them... still none can fix the problem.. until i removed the 3rd party enel4a battery from the grip and everything's working perfectly again! install it back and same problem comes back so it's the 3rd party battery that was causing the problems!!!
So the battery that has been working perfectly before was probably outputing some funny voltage that was causing the problems.

On the other hand, there must be some protection circuit in the camera/grip that did a good job in protecting the camera.

yes i'm off to buy some geninue ENEL4A now!!!
Lucky with the protection circuit. Could have been a terrible outcome! I am going to stay away from non-genuine batteries. Considering the cost, a genuine one will last longer and guarantee they work.
I have 2 fake ones. No troubles yet, except that one doesn't store as much life as the other Sad If I had the money, I'd stick with genuine.
At least you all knowingly bought after-market batteries. There are some dealers that are selling counterfeit (fake) Nikon batteries as genuine Nikons. Please read all the details, so you can spot the phonies at this link:

Beware!

I can do about 2000 shots on a single charge - original EN-EL3e.
What about you guys?
2000 shots, that surely is impressive.
what are your camrea settings?

JPG/RAW?
do you review image?
do you shoot in continuous mode? or single?
It's 2000 max, I suppose.
Currently it's on 35% and 1400 clicks. Will let you know after the game tonight.
Continuous mostly - especially at the WC now.
Could be less at single but hard to tell since there are days where I don't get a chance to shoot at all and the battery 'drains' on standby.
JPEG. Little reviewing.

Mind you the 80-200's AF is a little 'slow' so it could drain a bit extra than my kit 18-135. Just a guess. Giving the 'old lady' a rest for today's game - taking my 'kit' only.
