I decided to do a quick shoot today. The weather has been pretty cold, so I tried to shoot as quickly as possible!

I am finding that I am running out of ideas. I really don't know what else I could have done to make the shots any better. So any input would be appreciated!

I started off with the 24-70 2.8 and D700 with 2 x SB600 on ebay triggers. I found that the x-sync speed was becoming a real pain as I couldn't go faster than 1/250. So I switched over to CLS in TTL mode and had each of the SB600's in different groups dialed down to -1.0 and -2.0.

Switched over to 85/1.4

I tried to keep a consistent post processing style as it is a set.

Opinions and critique please.

Thanks for looking
Few more from the set.

very nice set of photos,
i like the photos at the top the most.
the "different processing" one are not as nice as the top ones. but still quite good!
On the first one, could we do it so the legs are "in motion"??
The shot of the man standing, makes him look fat. The shots are good, favourite one is the first one.
The man standing IS fat TongueBig GrinWink

I know your Canon doesn't have the ability to track a moving object, hence you don't "criticise" the 'in motion' shots and take it out on the stationary MAN shots. Lucky for me, my Nikon has a decent auto focus system. AngelAngel

DodgyDodgy The man can't afford jackets that are thinner as they cost alot more. Especially suede.

Getting the legs in motion requires the model to have legs like "sonic the hedgehog". I will request for a model that can do it in the future though. hahaha. Trade this model in for a another? UndecidedUndecided

few more..

CTM, your portrait shots are getting better and better everytime.

Here are my quite picky critique:

it seems you didn't use any colour gel at all on your flashes? the white (cool) flash light doesn't match the warm ambient sunset sunlight

shot 1: i would do it from a lower angle, basically you can lie down on the floor and shot up with a very wide angle. just to make the shot even more dramatic.

shot 2: I would want to see a bit more of the ground and a bit less sky (i.e. point the camera down slightly)

shot 3: the model looks like he just woke up ? Tongue

shot 4: quite a nice shot. And this shot would be a lot better if you put a CTO filter on the flash and fire it from the side. So you get some warm highlight on the model and his clothing.

shot 5: probably my favoruite in the set. Looks very nice, pose, composition are all very nice. but again, the model's face/skin looks a bit too cold colour wise. I would want them a bit warmer to match the background.
Thanks for the input! I actually find it quite hard to take in movement shots. I started with focus in "s" then switched to "c". I also fired in Continuous Low to get about 3 frames per burst (any more the flashes wouldn't work). Any tips for using the autofocus for objects coming towards you?

I should have brought the gels, damn it. I will be doing that next time.

Thank you for the input and the picky critique!!!! exactly what i wanted! thanks!!!!
Does this work for you? YES / NO ?
