Interesting read.
Would I buy a camera just for IS / VR , probably not. I only have 1 lens with VR and I don't miss it on my other lenses. I can see the marketing edge that Sony, Panasonic, Olympus have with built in body VR / IS, this works well for the entry level photographer and the mass market but I wouldn't want a D3 with VR / IS. There is no real downside of having it, but for some reason, I just wouldn't want it (personal opinion by the way).
