Hey Nikon gurus

Joseph and myself were wondering two things.

Firstly, is there a way to change the file names so that the camera records each new photo as a new number, and doesnt start back at DSC_001 when on a new card? Makes it annoying when loading heaps of pics from different times into one folder on the comp and it saying that they already exist. Have been through every menu on my D60 and cant find it anywhere. My olf Fuji could, surely these flash Nikons can. Heart

And secondly is there a way to make the screen stay on longer, for viewing shots and changing settings? Both the d60 and 90 auto black out if you dont touch anything for a few seconds. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Hi Roo,

1. yes you can. On your D60, go to SETUP MENU -> FILE NO. SEQUENCE -> ON

2. yes you can On your D60, go to CUSTOM SETTING MENU -> 15 AUTO OFF TIMER -> then either use one of the preset interval, or you can go to CUSTOM and change each of the auto off timer from a few seconds to a few minutes.

For D90, i'm sure you can do similar things...
Thanks Richard, Manage to sort mine
It's all in the manual Big Grin
Ahh thanks Richard, my menu was set to simple Sad

All fixed now.
Okay, another question.

On my D60 it can quite often become quite 'laggy' esp after doing alot of shooting. Recently shooting a drift day, I got up to around 800 shots on 4gb card, and then when I took a photo it would take ages to show up on the screen and the little hourglass symbol would pop up, and also wouldnt take more than 4 or 5 in a row on continuous shutter. I fugured it could be getting too full/too low in batt or a combination of both. Have since formatted the card and charged the batt but its still like it. Its really annoying, any ideas? New better/faster card needed?

Thanks!
Without actually seeing the camera, i'm guessing the camera was still trying to clear the buffer and saving the files to your camera.
If you are taking photos in continous mode, it may take up to 30 seconds or longer for the camera to save all the images from buffer to the card. And if you try to do anything during that period, the camera will be quite laggy. If the SD card you using is a slow speed one then buying a faster card can help improve this.

If this is not the case, i.e. you took the last batch of photos at least 5 mins ago, then there maybe something wrong with your memory card?
Low battery shouldn't affect the performance in your case. So maybe try swap your card with someone else and see if it's still the same?
Hmmm.

I will see what the card has written on it and let you know.

But yes, taking even one photo on its own now after not using the camera for a few days is still laggy.
Its the same as my card, Lexar SDHC 4GB Platinum II 60x

If i remember correctly, I was getting the same problem on my old D40x
Try using a different card and see if the problem is still there.
