made a big decision yesterday, i took a big hit and sold all of my nikon gears and gone to canon.

the main reason behind is probably the price from nikon, with each pro class lens/camera at least 1k more than the canon ones i just thought i couldn't stand it anymore.

so i changed to the 5dm2 with a whole lot of canon L lenses, also considering to get the 1dsm3 once the 1dsm4 is out.

will post up some pics soon and let see how the 5dm2 compare with the d700.
You did the opposite of what I did.

What lenses did you end up buying?
hey Dave, sad to see you jump back to the dark side.
but i know what you mean. I think the NZ Nikon distributor is really pricing a lot of their products way too high at the moment. The local Nikon product price just doesn't align with the rest of the world.

But on the other hand, the Nikon lenses that are considerably more expensive than the Canon counterpart are usually the lenses that are much better quality, like the 24-70 f/2.8 , 50mm f/1.4G.

The other lenses like 50mm f/1.8, 35mm f/2, 85mm f/1.4...etc where Canon and Nikon are of similar quality their price are pretty much the same as well.

And there are some Canon lenses that is more expensive than the Nikon (usually they are better quality than Nikon). Btw, not sure how true it is, but i heard a rumour that the new Canon 70-200 IS II F/2.8 will be close to $4000NZ when it's released here.

But anyway, you know we still love you even if you jump to the dark side Big Grin (and the members from the dark side here will love you even more LOL) so yeah please keep share your photo from your 5D Mk2, 1Ds...etc in the future!
Traitor! Big Grin
hehe, well i felt pretty bad yesterday after seeing my 200f2 gone, but been playing around with the new gear last night and today making me feel a lot better.

CTM,
i went with, 16-35 f2.8L Mk2, 24-70, 70-200 f2.8L IS Mk2 (still waiting for it to arrive our shore), the new 100 Macro f2.8L IS, and the 85 f1.2L (waiting for it to arrive next week).
i also picked up 2 580exII with one pocket wizard mini TT1 and 2 TT5, i got to say i am loving the wireless E-TTL on pocket wizard, its so handy to use.

yellow15,
i do understand what you are saying, but i guess i just had enough with the nikon price here and seen the convert as the future upgrade investment. say if i buy another set of nikon 14-24, 24-70, 70-200 and if i am using canon, the amount i save i can easily buy a spear 5dm2. the new canon 70-200 IS II is priced around 3.2k mark.
but thanks for the support, and i am sure i will stay around to learn and share more from you guys.
Welcome to the brightside EGD, i am glad you found light at the end of the tunnel!
I will be interested to see how the new 70-200mm compares...

The new 100f2.8 is an amazing lens.
thanks DRAW, i actually started with Canon but moved to nikon when the D700 came out.

can't say i am glad or sad with the move, but i did find i still remember how to operate and setup on the canon.

yes the new 100mm macro is a very sharp lens, and bloody good priced too.
i agree there are a few things the dark side is more attractive!
Canon's DSLR video feature kick ass!
but i recently turned from the dark side and become a Jedi! Big Grin
Will you be replacing your old Nikon 200/2 with the Canon 200/2?
probably not at this stage, will wait and see how the new 70-200 F2.8 ISII perform.

i had a pretty full on weekend with the 5d2 in 4 and rotary with media pass, so far pretty happy with how all gears perform.

should have some pics up in a few days once i submit to the mags.
