Hi, I will be taking stills on a movie set next week. I am using a Jacobsen Sound blimp. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what setting I should use to get the best pictures as I will not be able to change the settings while using the blimp. Has anyone done this before? It is my first time and I could use the advice. I'm using the Nikon D300s and the 24-70 f2.8 lens. Thanks! Mel
I haven't use a Jacobsen Sound blimp before.
It's a bit hard to give suggestion on settings really as a lot of settings really depends on the set (indoor/outdoor? lighting? what kind of movie it is...etc)
is the zoom ring useable when the camera is in the blimp? If not, then you have to first decide if you want to take wider angle shots or close up shots of the individual actors/actress
but just to give you the most versatile settings to work on maybe you should turn on auto ISO, shoot in raw, auto WB (doesn't really matter actually) aperture priority mode and aperture i would probably set at wide open or slow down slightly to give you slightly more depth of field (and margin for error), single point AF using center point.
Thank you for the post yellow15...really helpful. The zoom ring is usable. But I will probably try the settings you suggested.
you may want to use spot metering if you are mainly taking "people" photos
and also practice with the settings you are going to use beforehand to make sure you get the results you want.
