Well yesterday Mum found an oldish film camera at home. And it got me thinking and browsing trademe.

Im interested to buy an old film camera, probably 35mm SLR and just have some fun with it. They are so cheap on TM!

Any reccomendations? What to look out for?

Cheers!
I've also been looking to buy one for ages.
Something along the lines of a F80 or similar.
Running cost is probably the thing you should consider the most.

Just a few rolls of film + printing is probably the cost of a film SLR already.

I was going to get a FM2 or FE2 but didn't get one in the end mainly because of the running cost.

And if you have never used any film SLR before, be prepared that you may shoot a roll of film and not get one single useful shot.

One thing is, it'll train you to pay more attention to details and image composition..etc as you simply can't afford to shoot "blindly" like what we do with our DSLR these days.
if you want a light and small SLR, probably something like FM/FM2/FE/FE2 would be good but they aren't cheap (at least the one in good condition) as everyone wants one !
I would only use it for the occasional 'special' shot.
Don't wanna go bakrput, please
What are your guys thoughts on these?

Are they old enough to get that 'old' look to the photos?

what kind of old look do you want?
I dont really know! Haha. Just something with a bit of noise I guess really.
hey Roo, if you want noise, or some other "film effects" (like colour shift/cross processing), it's more to do with the film and how the film was processed than the camera itself.
e.g. use high ISO film, expired film...etc
Ah okay, thanks Richard.

I think Ill just keep saving for my D7000/D300s for now. Film camera can wait.
