Was browsing the net recently and discovered one could pick up a second-hand D300 in great condition for a very good price.
Is it worth investing or should I rather save some more and go FX when ready?
I don't like buying second-hand cameras but some of those prices are quite tempting.
An yes - got my D80 brand new.
i guess what camera to upgrade and should i upgrade now is always a tricky question.
So, maybe you can ask yourself the following questions first?
1. what kind of photo do you take the most? portrait, landscape, animals, strret, kids,...etc?
2. Do you find you are currently GREATLY limited by your camera's high ISO noise performance?
3. Do you want more reach? or you have more than enough?
I think what WOTWOT ssaid is quite true. If you hardly take photos at night, having a D700 isn't really worth the money. The D300 low light performance is not that bad. The 1.5x crop factor is a great tool to have if you need the reach. There are quite a few factors to consider.
yes i think the key difference between the D300 and a full frame (e.g.D700) are:
D700:
Super awesome low light performance
larger viewfinder
more shallow depth of field
D300:
a lot cheaper
1.5x crop factor = more reach
to me, the low light performance is VERY important as i do a lot of baby portraits and i don't use flash so i bought a D700 as i need very good low light performance.
but if i shoot birds/animals, then the D300 would probably be the better camera for me.
Thanks for the input everyone.
Much appreciated.
Think I might rather go for the new MacBook Pro.
