but 2 SB800s is a lot more expensive than 1 SB900
i think the cheapest price for a SB800 was around $360US and a SB900 is just around US$490..
so 2 SB800 is still quite a bit more expensive than one SB900
and another problem is.. brand new SB800 isn't available anymore

Yes SB800 + SB600 is approx the same price as a SB900!!!
well that is if you can still find a SB800 and the shop is selling it at a reasonable price..
i saw many places selling their remaining SB800 stock at almost same price as SB900!!

According to me i want to go with SB-900.Because of it is updated version.Personally, I like the SB900 over the SB600. No doubt the SB900 is a larger flash unit (and yes, the thermal protect feature can be turned off). I like the SB900 because it's easier to control multiple flashes (Nikon's CLS). I also like the little gel holder that comes with the 900.It has some other features also.

They are all wonderful.
The SB-800 being a great model, and the SB-900 giving you more power and much more ease of use and customization compared to the 800.
If you do have a camera shop near by check them all out. The 900 is as large as people might expect though, so think about that when you go to put it on top of your D80.
