Just came across this article last night, the author was talking about his street photography experience and the "comfort zone"

http://xpatscot.wordpress.com/photograph...fort-zone/

I guess most of us would do a bit of street photography from time to time, so how do you do it and what's your style?

Quite a few street photographer would just go straight up to someone and say, "can i take a photo of you?" for me, while i do something like that occasionally, most of the time i would just try to take a photo without being noticed. So i prefer to use a longer lens.. something like 100mm+ and try to take picture from a distance.

So what about you guys?
Too scared to do it! haha.
what? am i the only one who does (a bit of) street photography here!???
I point my camera slightly off the subject and use the side a/f points. So they don't think I am pointing at them, but I am actually taking a shot of them! If they don't like it, I guess they will come and tell me? I haven't had anybody come up and tell me I can't take a photo.

I do like the shots he captured at the end of his article. But approaching a homeless person, I am more scared of getting robbed.

I do also have to note that bodies + grips equal a size that scares away most people.
yes i also like to point the camera off the subject, i might even focus on another object from the same distance, then quickly re-compose the frame and take the photo.

big camera + grip + big lens definitely scares a lot of people away!!! people feel uncomfortable when i point my 70-200 f/2.8 towards them.

that's one of the reason why i got myself a gf1 .. even with the 45-200mm lens (which gives me 90-400mm equivalent range) , it's still a very small camera and i can sneakily take photo from a longer distance without being noticed or make them feel uncomfortable.
Thank you for reading my blog piece and a special thank you to CIM for the nice things he said about my pics. Happy (street) shooting. XpatScot
