Hello Lena,
what lens are you using? have you tried swapping to another lens and check if you got the same problem?
and does it happen everytime you take a shot?

Let me try a different lense... it start to take a pic them the but only gets half way thru and the just stops. if you press the button again it will complete the cycle but no pic... make sense...
Im a noob so im not sure of allthe terminology..... let ck ny other lenses....

so is it...
first click, you hear some shutter/mirror noise.. nothing happens..
then you click again.. hear some more noise.. but no pic and you got an err?

Yup that's it.... and I tried it with a different lens and the same...

1. try clean the contact points between the lens and the camera
2. fully recharge your battery
3. pull out the memory card,clean the contacts and put it back
if doing all these still can't get rid of the error, i think there is a reset button on the base of the camera.. see if you can find a small hole there and press it. hope that'll fix it.

The last time i got an ERR message was because the aperture ring on my lens was knocked out of place.

This happens to me quite often. What lenses have you got? Are they 'G' or 'D' ends?

I have a Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 1-55mm 1:3-5.6 G... so I assume G end...
tried cleaning ad still no dice, and batt is charged and new SD card...
