While I was on holiday in Tokyo earlier this week. I visited alot of touristic places, mostly in Kamakura which is in Kanagawa prefecture. I kept my eye out to see what the majority of the tourists / public had as cameras. I found it compelling that I had to see what they were all using, it felt almost like peeping.

My D700 was without the grip and had a 50/1.4 on it, so it looked like a smaller lower range camera and I didn't have a strap advertising its model. So I didn't get much attention. But, those guys carrying 70-200's or larger, got a huge amount of attention. Any time a tourist wanted a photo taken, they approached one of these guys FIRST. SO great way to meet girls. Smile Get a big lens! I am sure some of you will have stories to share.

I found it very odd that there were quite a few couples that had both systems. They had one yellow and black strap and one red and black strap. The funny thing is, both straps had the yellow / black on the OUTSIDE of the strap.

I also realised that there were some couples that had only 1 system and the man usually had the bigger camera or a model one grade up.

The division between Canon and Nikon was about 50/50. There were a few with Olympus and Pentax. Apart from the crew I went with, there was nobody else with white zooms. Kit lenses seem to be the overwhelming norm. The nikons were easy to tell as they had their models on the straps. I have yet to see a D3 strap on a D40!

So, anybody got any other stories of camera peeping??
I'm mostly the guy with the biggest camera when I have the D200 + grip. Haven't yet seen a person with a pro body slr on an outing yet. I'm one of those couples with the one system hehe.
I love looking when somebody has a D3 or a 1D, they are so sexy!!! But they are pretty rare. Mostly D60, D40, 400D, 350D, 40D's...... !
Well, it's not the camera that makes it a better shot.

But other people can't see your photos.. they can only see your camera!!! Big Grin

Apart from the pro photographers that is taking photos for their clients, I haven't really seen too many pro DSLRs on the street. a few D200/300/5D/5D II but only have seen 1-2 D2/D3.. haven't seen any 1D/1Ds
