Hi guys,
this is just a general thread is for you to post up some postprocessing/photoshop technique questions/information. Feel free to ask any questions here or share some cool techniques you've found.

It doesn't mean all the postprocess/photoshop related topcis must be posted under this thread, feel free to start a separate thread if you want to.

If you want to post someone else's photo and ask for advice, please make sure you also post a link to the original website. Please don't comment on or criticise those linked photos and only focus on the postprocessing techniques instead.

Thanks
Richard
Thanks Richard!

I'll get the ball rolling, how is a white haze/lens flare created on the top left corner of shots like below without getting the actual lens flare circles on the oppisite corner to the haze that the lens flare filter on Photoshop gives? Kind of hard to explain in text haha.

Any any other comments on what else the photographer may have done in Photohop afterwards too.

Here is another shot that has used this even further

adding haze is quite easy in photoshop. Just like most other effects, there are many ways to do it. Here is one of the easiest way.

Here is the a photo from a photoshoot i did a while ago:

Haze means low contrast and almost white for everything. You can simulate it by adding a curve adjustment layer, adjust the curve similar to the picture below. Then in the mask area first make everything black, then use the pen tool (choose a big radius pen) to draw the area your imagaine sun/light source comes from. Apply guassian blur to the mask to blur the effect. This is what you'll get

If you want you can add a warm photo filter on top to simulate the warm afternoon sun light

The most important thing is that the haze you add must match the photo. i.e. if you add haze to top left, it means you are pretending there is a strong light source from top left, so if the objects in the scene doesn't match it (for example, the shadow is directly underneath the object instead of on the right side, or there is no highlight/rim light on the left side), then the effect you just added would just look fake and people would notice it straight away.
The little boy photo i picked above is actually not the best photo for this effect. But at least you see some rim light around his head (which suggest there is a light source from behind the subject) and the shadow is slightly on the right side
Hey, how do you post process all your street photography shots Yellow15? hehehe.....
CTM: haaa not that i don't wanna tell you but my street photos processing involves a lot more steps, combining quite a few techniques and also a lot of mucking around.. so it's hard to do a step by step guide here.
lively kid!Nice share!!
I finally had a go with the haze, comments welcome!
