Isn't too dry air nearly as bad as too humid air ?

What's the optimal humidity level for storing bodies and lenses ?

If dry air comes at the expense of no sun light at all, is it worth it ?
I use a pelican case and silica gel.

I had never even heard of dry humidity controlled cases until I read this thread. It's good to learn.
On the Bar, floor, backseat of taxis, airport, in the office...

Nah, seriously Israeli Kata bags are bullet proof and real competition for Lowe and thats what we use now. When not using my gear I should store it in a humidity controlled dry cabinet - but I don't (don't have one). I am currently negotiating with a Chinese company to purchase a 150 litre (fridge size) cabinet.

And, jepomat, google the ideal humidity, FWIR...something like 45% and it needs to be pretty constant. There is a lot of guff on the subject. But at the end of the day - just keep shooting and don't give the fungus time to grow. Apparently it takes a few hours of exposure in the right conditions to start spawning fungus that may affect optics.

Lens mould/ fungus can be real issue here in the tropics. In the wetter months I leave the aircon on for most of the day and I think it helps preventing fungus growth. Jane, from Dryboss, who sometimes comments very shortly after my posts on other sites maybe able to help.

Cheers. Pete.
