I wonder what they'll replace it with. I want one!

Similar rumour has been around for 2-3 years.the 70-200VR is the oldest of the 3 most popular Nikon f/2.8 zoom lenses (14-24 24-70 and 70-200) so yes it will probably be replaced soon.
But the current one is not really that old and it already has most of the Nikon's latest technology like VR, AFS.. so if there is a new one, nano coating will probably be the only new technology they can put in. And i don't really see how Nikon can dramatically improve the optical quality of it without increasing the price tag too much as the current one's overall PQ is not bad anyway.
But i hope will proof me wrong and surprise me with a new awesome 70-200 lens at similar price

If I was Nikon I would not increase the price tag when I introduce "70-200VR II". And yes Nikon should make some more grey/white ones too so they can attract the existing Canon users.

I don't want a white one so i won't be mistaken as using a canon camera
but really, white lens on a completely black camera looks a bit stupid to me. should release the pro cameras as white or at least partially white to match the white lenses...
just my personal opinion.

The 70-200 also comes in Gray, I have seen it! It looks wrong.

So the new VRII is 4 stops vs 3 stops???? Why did they have to release one after I just got one last month. arrghhhhh

haaaa... Muphry's law, isn't it? at least they are not releasing a D700s at the same time
but are you unhappy with your 70-200VR?
i'm perfectly happy with my 70-200VR. PQ is good enough, build is pro quality, AF is fast, VR works quite well. My only minor complain would be weight and size but that's just the way it is.. so i don't see how a new version no matter how good it is can improve my picture. Releasing a new one won't make my lens take worse picture and i'm not planning to sell my lens any time soon so it doesn't really matter to me if they are releasing a new model or not.
And we haven't see the price yet.. maybe i'm wrong but following Nikon's tradition, the new model will be more expensive than the current model. And if the new one is significantly better than the current one, the price will only be even higher
Look at the recent examples:
50 f/1.4D -> 50 f/1.4G
28-70 f/2.8D -> 24-70 f/2.8G
105macro -> 105macro VR
so just enjoy what you got... but let us know when next time you are going to buy another new lens LOL

I am happy with my 70-200. I just don't want it depreciating due to a new model. But its ok as the new one is US3,500. Those who aren't going to pay the US3,500 for the new 70-200 VR II will still want the older 70-200 VR, phew, keeping its prices as they are!!!
The 50/1.4 D is still well priced. It isn't dirt cheap just because of the new release, which is good!
